Carrie’s 1RM Deadlift at 250#!!!

We are excited to announce that this month’s Member of the Month is Carrie Truscott. Carrie has been with CFTC since September 2012. She was in our second ever On Ramp group, and has held a consistent schedule at CFTC ever since, and her hard work, and dedication has paid off. She can string together 7-10 kipping pullups, climb the rope for days, she recently crushed CrossFit Total, with a PR on all three lifts: Back Squat (155#, a 20# PR), Press (80.5#, a 2.5# PR), and Deadlift (250#, a 15# PR). We are so proud of Carrie!

How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I started my On Ramp class on Oct 1, 2012. So, it has been almost a year and a half now.

Why did you decide to join CrossFit Tri County?
I went to a CrossFit class with a friend while I was on vacation in Utah. I really liked the class but, at the same time, was sort of intimidated by CrossFit. There was a part of me that wanted to try it but I think I needed an extra push. That extra push came when I turned 43 and my husband bought me the On Ramp/1 Month Unlimited classes deal at CFTC for my birthday. Obviously I ended up loving CrossFit and CFTC. My husband never seems annoyed when I talk endlessly about CrossFit and I think it is because he knows he opened Pandora’s box.

What was your first day of On Ramp like?
The month I did On Ramp, a 10am class was offered. I arrived a few minutes early and full of nerves. I and the other newbies watched through the window as the 9am class finished up. Watching them work out was not making me feel better…whatever they were doing looked so intense and brutal. The other new people seemed just as nervous as me and that made me feel better. Also, there were several guys in our group wearing brand new Nanos and Reebok gear, like kids at their first day of a sports camp. It was funny. I remember doing the first timed workout and by the end of it, I was hooked. I couldn’t wait to come back. Each time I came, I was nervous but pushed through the nerves and loved it. I often still feel that way now.

When did you know that CrossFit was for you?
As I said above, I loved it right from the start, right from the first class. Even though I loved it, I wondered if I had what it took to stick with it over the long haul. I can remember asking Ashley, as she met people in On Ramp, if she could tell which people would stick with it and which would drop out. I think, in my own way, I was asking her if she thought I had what it took.

What has been your greatest achievement since you started at CFTC?
I think my greatest achievement since starting at CFTC has been consistency in coming to class and working on weaknesses. I truly believe that consistency and hard work can take you anywhere you want to go. All of the wonderful things that have happened with CrossFit at CFTC have happened because I was there, because I showed up and gave it my all. So many times I was scared, or I was dealing with an injury, or I wasn’t achieving things as fast as I wanted or as fast as I thought I should have…I’m so happy that I didn’t let those things get to me and I continued on my journey. The journey has led me so many places that I never thought I would go: up to the top of the rope, pull ups, C2B pull ups, 250 lb Deadlift, a few strict ring dips, etc. I’m sure as I continue on, I will yet go places that I never imagined.

How has CFTC changed your life?
I came to CFTC not to lose weight but just to get a really good workout. To look at me, I don’t think I have had this amazing physical transformation. I am definitely in better shape and much more toned than when I arrived. But, the real transformation is in how I feel. I feel much more confident in myself and my abilities. I feel much more capable of facing challenges both physical and mental. I am much more willing to try new things and am OK with not being good at everything the first time I try it. I know now that if I work at something, I will get there. Plus, I feel like I have found a second family at CFTC. I had no idea that I would make such wonderful friends and that their support would help me to achieve so much. I appreciate every word of encouragement you all give to me and I enjoy, very much, encouraging all of you, too! I feel like I want to give a special shout out to all the 9am ladies…including Todd & Ken…you all are the best! I look forward to seeing you each day! And last, but not least, a HUGE thank you to Ashley & Scott! You both have been so caring, supportive, and patient. I have noticed & appreciated all of the personalized training and friendship you have given to me.

What words of encouragement would you give a newbie or someone hesitant to try CrossFit?
CrossFit can be life changing, if you let it. It can be scary and intimidating at first but everyone at CFTC will help you along your journey. There is no judgment here – only friendship and support. You will be amazed at what you can achieve if you stick with it!
